Overview
Bridgeport uses a two-tier snow emergency system. Designated snow emergency streets (marked with white signs with red lettering) require a full parking ban, while all other streets use an odd/even calendar-date rotation. The Mayor declares snow emergencies, and violations carry a minimum $130 towing fee.
How the Snow Emergency Is Declared
The Mayor declares a snow emergency in anticipation of or during a snowstorm. The Mayor sets specific effective start and end times for each declaration.
Parking Rules During a Snow Emergency
Two-tier system:
Snow Emergency Streets
Streets marked with white signs with red lettering — no parking at all. Vehicles must be moved off these streets entirely.
All Other Streets — Alternate Side Parking
Parking rotates based on odd/even calendar dates:
- On an even-numbered calendar date (from 7:00 AM that day to 7:00 AM the next day): park on the even-numbered side of the street
- On an odd-numbered calendar date: park on the odd-numbered side of the street
The side is determined by the street address numbers of the buildings on that side.
Additional rules: Vehicles should remain off streets for up to 36 hours after a storm and must be moved every 48 hours from where parked.
Exemptions: Clergy, physicians, and utility workers performing emergency duties are permitted to park on either side of the street.
Fines & Towing
- Towing: Minimum $130 towing fee, plus parking citations
- Impound: Vehicles are held until the owner pays towing fees, storage charges, and fines as determined by the police department
