Snow Emergency Parking Rules in West Haven, CT

What West Haven residents need to know when a snow emergency is declared

Overview

West Haven enforces a two-tier parking ban system during winter storms. The standard ban kicks in automatically when snow falls, restricting parking to the even-numbered side. When the Mayor declares a formal Snow Emergency, additional streets see a full ban on both sides overnight. The fine is $100 and vehicles can be towed.

How the Snow Emergency Is Declared

Two tiers:

  1. Automatic ban: Once snow begins to fall, a parking ban goes into effect automatically.
  2. Official Snow Emergency: The Mayor can declare a formal Snow Emergency with additional restrictions.

Parking Rules During a Snow Emergency

Standard ban (when snow falls): Parking is prohibited on the even-numbered side of most roads, unless the odd-numbered side is posted "No Parking."
