WEST HAVEN, CT — A Milford Superior Court jury on Wednesday, Oct. 21, convicted a 44-year-old Stamford man on all four charges in a 2024 attack on a legally blind woman at the Main Street building in West Haven where she worked and lived, State's Attorney Margaret E. Kelley of the Ansonia-Milford Judicial District announced.

The 2024 Attack

Prosecutors said the 57-year-old woman ran a business on the first floor of the building and lived upstairs. On Aug. 18, 2024, her doorbell rang several times. When she opened the door a crack, the man forced his way inside, grabbed her neck and demanded money, according to the State's Attorney's office.

He searched the first floor, then went upstairs and took $600, her credit cards, her identification and both of her cellphones. He ordered her to keep quiet when she tried to talk. He bound her with a phone charger cord and held up scissors as a threat, then forced her to undress and sexually assaulted her. She got outside and found her landlord, who called police, Patch reported.

Arrest and Sentencing

Police arrested the man on Dec. 19, 2024. Investigators used license plate reader hits, cellphone data, cell site records and DNA analysis, with help from other law enforcement agencies. In a 2024 statement, West Haven police said other Connecticut towns had identified him as their main suspect.

The jury found him guilty of first-degree sexual assault, home invasion, first-degree robbery and third-degree burglary. Sentencing is set for Jan. 13, 2027, in Milford Superior Court.
