MIDDLETOWN, CT — Runners will line up at Wadsworth Mansion at Long Hill on Sunday, Oct. 25, for the Connecticut Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Run, now in its 16th year. The 5K honors the 158 Connecticut officers who have died in the line of duty, Patch reported. The mansion is at 421 Wadsworth St. The race is directed by Brian Barao, a sergeant with the Glastonbury Police Department. Gemma Power Systems is presenting the event, which will proceed in any weather.
Race Schedule and How to Sign Up
Opening ceremonies are expected to begin at about 9:45 a.m.; the 5K is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. The chip-timed course is certified by USA Track & Field and starts and ends at the mansion. East Windsor Deputy Police Chief Ben Murphy will speak at the ceremony, and the Connecticut State Police Honor Guard will present the colors, Patch reported.
Online registration is available at ctleomr.org. Late preregistration stays open until 11:59 p.m. Oct. 24, and runners may also sign up on race day. The race's registration page lists late preregistration at $35 for adults and $15 for children under 14, rising to $40 and $20 on race day. Law enforcement runners may compete for officer, agency team, and K-9 awards.
Who Can Take Part and Where to Park
Law enforcement officers and members of the public may enter the race, Patch reported. Parking is at Wadsworth Mansion while spaces last, and organizers advise arriving early because the lots fill quickly. More parking is a short walk down the street at Snow School, 299 Wadsworth St., according to the registration page.
An after-party follows at Concentric Brewing Company, 91 Main St. in Portland, with food, drinks, music, and raffle prizes. People who do not run can attend.
