East Hampton Man Dies in Route 15 Crash in Orange, State Police Say

Troopers are asking witnesses and drivers with dash camera footage to call

ORANGE, CT — A 38-year-old East Hampton man died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 31, in a two-vehicle crash on southbound Route 15 in Orange, Connecticut State Police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers from Troop I in Bethany were called to the crash near Exit 42B at 4:17 p.m., state police said. The driver of the other vehicle was taken by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital with injuries; NBC Connecticut described them as minor.

What State Police Found

State police said their preliminary findings show the truck moved into the right lane while the two vehicles were traveling side by side. Both vehicles left the road, crossed the right shoulder and collided with a metal guardrail, and the truck then struck a highway sign support post. Both came to rest on an embankment beside the right shoulder.

Why the truck changed lanes is still under investigation, state police said.

Troopers Seek Dash Camera Footage

The Connecticut State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is assisting the investigation. Anyone who saw the crash or was in the area with dash camera footage is asked to call Trooper Patrick Miko at (203) 393-4200 or email patrick.miko@ct.gov.
