MIDDLETOWN, CT — The Board of Education's Tuesday, Oct. 13, agenda carried votes on a set of community policies, from school security to pool safety, along with seven out-of-state student trips. The city's American Rescue Plan Act Task Force was set to hear Wednesday how much of its federal pandemic aid has been spent. Minutes from both meetings had not been posted as of Friday, Oct. 16.
Board of Education
The board was scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Its action items included a stipend for the Beman robotics program and the district's Series 1000 community policies, which cover automatic external defibrillators, deadly weapons and firearms, green cleaning, nondiscrimination, pesticide use on school property, pool safety, the school security and safety plan, and sexual offenders on school property. Members were also set to act on the line-item transfer report, the Department of Economic and Community Development budget-to-actual reports and an Alliance Grant submission.
Superintendent Joseph Macary's report listed the PSAT and SAT results, the Oct. 1 enrollment count, the district's communication outreach and the state's blue-ribbon commission on Education Cost Sharing, the formula that sets state school aid. The district highlights were a Bielefield fifth-grade presentation, "Wonder, Reflect, Inspire: A Fifth-Grade Character Journey through Literacy and Art," and the robotics team's American Manufacturing Hall of Fame award.
The consent agenda carried the trips: the high school's VEX robotics team to a national tournament in Worcester, Massachusetts, and robotics to Hershey, Pennsylvania; performing arts to New York; ultimate frisbee to Massachusetts; DECA to its international conference in Anaheim, California; and music ensembles from the high school and from Beman to Hershey.
American Rescue Plan Act Task Force
The task force, which oversees the city's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money, was scheduled to meet Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. by Webex.
The agenda called for review of minutes from the May 13 regular meeting and an update on expenditures through Sept. 30, 2026, as well as the remaining subrecipients’ spending through Dec. 31, 2026.
