BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 38-year-old Bridgeport man died after being shot on the city's East Side on Monday evening, Nov. 2, the city's ninth homicide of 2026, police said. He lived a block from the spot where he was shot, Patch reported.

Police got a ShotSpotter alert for a single gunshot on Barnum Avenue at about 7:34 p.m. Someone on Mill Hill Avenue, around the corner, called 911 to say they heard the shot as well, according to Patch.

Officers found the man unresponsive with a gunshot wound on Mill Hill Avenue near Barnum Avenue. An ambulance took him to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police said officers saw several people run into a Mill Hill Avenue home after the gunfire and detained them. The department has not said whether any of them face charges, and no arrests have been announced.

Mill Hill Avenue near Grant Street stayed closed for several hours Monday night while the Major Crimes Unit processed the scene. Police said the street has since reopened.

Major Crimes Unit detectives searched the house under a warrant early Tuesday, police said. The investigation is continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Thomas Harper at 203-581-5239.
