BRIDGEPORT, CT — The City Council's agenda for Monday, Nov. 2, listed the Contracts Committee's report on a new contract for the city's school crossing guards as "denied," and the Board of Education meets Monday, Nov. 9, to weigh a full-time city attorney post paid for by the schools.
City Council
The council's one item up for action was the Contracts Committee report on the Bridgeport School Crossing Guards Association's agreement, which would run from Sept. 1, 2026, to June 30, 2031. The agenda marked the report "denied." The council's votes had not been posted as of Friday, Nov. 6.
The council also sent a batch of items to committees:
- An electric vehicle charging site agreement with Voltpost Inc., and an agreement with Save the Sound to design and show off green infrastructure.
- Grant applications to the Justice Department's Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program, the state Department of Public Health's per-capita funding and two state Department of Children and Families youth services grants.
- Proposed ordinance changes on noise control, from Council Member Murray, and on food vending licenses and the council's and boards' own rules, from Council Member Pereira.
- A proposed workers' compensation settlement, and the mayor's appointments to the Zoning Board of Appeals, the Civil Service Commission, the Fire Commission and the Aquarion Regional Water District's Representative Policy Board.
Board of Education
The board's regular meeting is Monday, Nov. 9, at 6:30 p.m. The agenda includes:
- The chair's update on the board's "progress to state intervention."
- A recommendation from City Attorney Tyisha Toms to create a full-time city attorney position assigned to the Board of Education and paid for from its budget.
- A contract with The Docentus Group LLC to lead the district's human resources work on an interim basis, under a 120-day proposal.
- Immediate adoption of a retaliation and whistleblowing policy, and a first reading of an updated Title IX policy.
Two committees met earlier in the week. The Advocacy Ad Hoc Committee held an open forum Wednesday, Nov. 4, on its role, outreach and research, and the Operations Committee's Thursday, Nov. 5, agenda listed the status of the quarterly finance report. Minutes for both had not been posted as of Friday.
