BRANFORD, CT — Branford police arrested an 82-year-old Branford woman Wednesday, Oct. 14, saying she hit a juvenile riding an e-scooter on Pine Orchard Road and drove off. The juvenile was taken to the pediatric unit at Yale New Haven Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening and was listed in stable condition, Patch and NBC Connecticut reported.
Police charged the driver with evading responsibility, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, first-degree risk of injury and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to both reports. She was held on $50,000 bail.
Video and Debris Led Police to the Driver
Branford police and fire crews went to Pine Orchard Road after a report that a vehicle had hit a juvenile on an e-scooter and left. A security camera at a nearby home caught a white Subaru SUV stopping after the crash and then driving away, Patch reported.
Debris left at the scene, along with what witnesses told police, pointed investigators to a white Subaru Forester. They later found a matching vehicle and identified the driver, NBC Connecticut reported.
