Due dates, payment options, and what New Haven residents need to know to avoid late fees
Overview
New Haven's current mill rate is 39.40 mills for the 2024 Grand List (FY 2025–2026). Property tax bills over $100 are payable in two installments. The city has one of the higher mill rates in the area, reflecting its role as a major urban center.
Important: New Haven does not mail a second-installment bill. If you paid your first installment in July, your second payment is still due January 1 — even if you don't receive a bill. Missing this deadline triggers 1.5% monthly interest backdated to the due date.
