Woodbridge Zoning Panel Hears Shared Housing, Child Care Rules Nov. 2

WOODBRIDGE, CT — The Town Plan and Zoning Commission is set to conduct two public hearings Monday, Nov. 2, about zoning revisions involving shared housing and family and group child care homes.

Commissioners meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Meeting Room of Woodbridge Town Hall, 11 Meetinghouse Lane, Patch reported.

The Two Zoning Amendments

Winter Cartwright's zoning text amendment would make shared community residential housing a use allowed by permit, Patch reported. The category would take in housing for veterans, transitional and supportive housing, and sober or recovery homes.

Patch reported that the commission has proposed a separate amendment governing zoning rules for family and group child care homes. The work session agenda also lists both amendments for the commission to consider.

Housing Plans and the Former Country Club Site

An update on the commission's housing work for the next two years is on the schedule, along with a Housing Growth Plan and possible changes to opportunity housing regulations, Patch reported.

According to Patch, the work session has set aside time for an informational discussion about a request seeking expressions of interest in two designated development areas on the town-owned property once known as the Country Club of Woodbridge. The areas cover approximately 25 to 30 acres.

Other Items on the Work Session Agenda

The agenda puts Deanna Birdsong's request for a special exception permit to place a freestanding sign at 264 Amity Road before commissioners, Patch reported. They will also review minutes from the Aug. 4 special meeting and the Oct. 5 regular meeting. The agenda also lists the commission's meeting dates for January 2027 through January 2028.
