Wallingford Notice Lists Celebrate Wallingford Road Closures

Police outline event and race-day restrictions

WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford police have posted the road closures and parking bans for Celebrate Wallingford and the Fishbein/YMCA Community Road Race this weekend, in a notice dated Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Festival closures, Friday to Sunday

South Main Street between Center and Prince streets closes to all traffic at noon Friday, Oct. 2, and Simpson Court closes at 3 p.m. Friday. At 6 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, two more stretches close: Center Street between Elm Street and Whittlesey Avenue, and North Main Street between Center and Church streets. Police expect all of them to reopen around 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.

Parking is banned on South Main Street between Center and Prince streets from 11:30 a.m. Friday and on Simpson Court from 3 p.m. Friday. Center Street and North Main Street have no parking all day Saturday and Sunday. More bans will be posted along the detour routes, and police said violators can be ticketed and towed.

Detours

  • Center Street, eastbound: detour via South Whittlesey Avenue and Ward Street.
  • Center Street, westbound: detour via North Elm Street and Christian Street.
  • South Main Street, northbound: Ward Street, then South Elm or South Orchard Street.
  • North Main Street, southbound: Christian Street, then North Elm or North Orchard Street.

Road race, Sunday morning

The Fishbein/YMCA Community Road Race starts around 9 a.m. Sunday at the YMCA's Eastside Branch, 81 South Elm St., and finishes on South Main Street near Prince Street. According to the notice, South Elm Street between Center Street and Pond Hill Road closes from about 8:45 to 10:30 a.m.; Prince Street, from South Main Street to South Whittlesey Avenue, from about 8:45 to 11 a.m.; and South Main Street between Ward and Prince streets, and Sylvan Avenue between South Elm and South Main streets, from about 9 to 11 a.m. Local traffic may still use those roads, but police asked drivers to stay off them during the race and to watch for runners. Parking is banned along the route.
