The Southington Recreation Department has opened registration for its 2026 Playground Program Summer Day Camp, a municipally run summer program for children ages 5 to 12 who live in Southington.

Registration opened online March 2, 2026 at 10 a.m. and is available exclusively through the town's recreation portal at southingtonrec.com. Only Southington residents — including those in the Plantsville, Marion, and Milldale areas — are eligible to enroll.

Southington Camp Runs Three Two-Week Sessions This Summer

The 2026 program is divided into three separate sessions:

  • Session 1: June 22 – July 1
  • Session 2: July 6 – July 17
  • Session 3: July 20 – July 31

Camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The program takes place at Recreation Park and South End Elementary School, located on Maxwell Noble Drive in Plantsville.

Each child may register for a maximum of two sessions, totaling up to four weeks of programming over the summer.

How to Register and Pay

Families must create or log into a MyRec account to complete registration online. The Recreation Department does not accept paper registration forms — all enrollment is handled electronically through the town's system.

Payment can be made online by credit card, subject to a 3 percent service fee. Families who prefer to pay by check or money order can mail payment to the Recreation Department at 388 Pleasant Street, Southington, CT 06489, made payable to the Town of Southington. In-person payments are also accepted at the Recreation Department office, located inside the Calendar House Senior Center.

For questions about the registration process, families can contact the Recreation Department by phone at 860-276-6219 or by email at RecreationDept@southington.org.

Financial Aid Available for Eligible Families

Financial assistance is available for families who qualify. Southington Community Services offers scholarships worth up to $160 per child toward the cost of the camp. Families interested in applying for aid must contact the Southington Community Services office at 860-628-3761 to schedule an appointment before completing their registration.

About the Playground Program

The Playground Program is a longstanding summer offering administered by the Southington Recreation Department, which coordinates youth programming and community events for the town. The program is designed to provide structured recreational and educational activities for school-age children during the summer break.

The 2026 registration launch comes roughly 15 weeks before the first session begins, giving families a substantial window to secure spots before capacity limits are reached. The Recreation Department has not published enrollment caps for the 2026 season, but families are encouraged to register early given the program's popularity in prior years.

Southington, a town of roughly 44,000 residents in Hartford County, operates its recreation programming independently of the school district, though facilities like South End Elementary School are used during the summer months when classes are not in session.
