SOUTHINGTON, CT — The Board of Education approved the superintendent’s goals for 2026–27, cleared the Thalberg Elementary School roof plans for state review and awarded a $49,400 barn-fencing contract at its Thursday, September 24, meeting, the district’s BoardBook record shows. Every recorded vote carried without a no.
The meeting opened at 6:30 p.m. as a Committee of the Whole and went into executive session on UPSEU physical and occupational therapy contract negotiations and the superintendent’s proposed goals before reconvening in public at 7 p.m. Eight members voted to enter the session on a motion by Lisa Cammuso, seconded by Dawn Derynoski-Anastasio; Whitehead was recorded absent for that vote and present for the later ones.
Southington’s Roof, Fencing and Math Olympiad Votes
The board authorized its chair and the superintendent to sign the state’s request for review of final plans, Form SCG-042, for Department of Administrative Services project 131-0134 RR, so the district can send the final plans and a professional cost estimate to the DAS Office of Grants Administration before the roof replacement at Thalberg Elementary School begins. The motion, by Cammuso and seconded by Colleen Clark, carried 9–0.
On the Finance Committee’s September 17 recommendation, the board awarded RFP 2027-002, barn fencing for Southington Agricultural Science, to WBE Fence Company Inc. of Brewster, New York, for $49,400, paid from an Agricultural Science and Technology Education grant. It also approved a $1,400 budget transfer for the middle school Math Olympiad program. Both votes were 9–0. The superintendent’s 2026–27 goals were approved as submitted, 9–0, on a motion by Joseph Baczewski seconded by Cammuso.
