Southington Fire Department Collects Food at Five Sites Through November

SOUTHINGTON, CT — Five drop-off sites around Southington are taking nonperishable food through November in a fire department drive to help stock local food pantries, Patch reported Tuesday, Oct. 27.

The fall drive, which began in October, asks residents to give shelf-stable food for neighbors in need. The Southington Public Library is one of the official collection sites, with a bin in its main lobby, and residents can bring unexpired, nonperishable food any time the library is open, library officials said.

"We are proud to partner with our local heroes at the Southington Fire Department as an official collection site for their food drive!" the library said in a social media post.

Where to Drop Off and What to Bring

Donations can go to Southington Fire Headquarters at 310 North Main St., Fire Station 5 at 72 River St., the Southington Public Library at 255 Main St., Fire Station 3 at 35 Clark St. in Milldale, and Tops Marketplace at 887 Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike.

The department is asking for canned fruit, vegetables and soup; pasta and tomato sauce; cereal; and snacks for kids. The library added that canned proteins and other shelf-stable goods are especially helpful. Food must not be expired, and items that need refrigeration cannot be accepted.

Questions about the drive go to Southington Fire Headquarters at 860-621-3202, option 1.
