Man Shot Outside Birthday Party in Bridgeport; Police Seek Tips

BRIDGEPORT, CT — A 23-year-old man from Hamden was shot shortly after 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, outside a birthday party near Wood Avenue and Grove Street.

Police said the man was standing outside on Grove Street when a shot from a passing car struck him. He suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was listed in stable condition.

Police responded after 911 callers reported gunshots near the intersection, and a ShotSpotter alert registered there. Officers found four parked cars struck by gunfire, NBC Connecticut reported.

Someone was driving the wounded man to St. Vincent’s Hospital when they spotted an ambulance and police cruisers near Lexington Avenue and Grand Street and pulled over for help, NBC Connecticut reported. Paramedics took him the rest of the way. He is expected to survive, News 12 reported.

Detectives with the bureau’s Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force are handling the case. Anyone who saw the shooting or knows something about it can reach Detective Tim Leonard at 203-581-5253, police said.
