Man Charged After Knife Attack on Wallingford Movie Theater Security Guard

WALLINGFORD, CT — A 25-year-old Wallingford man was arrested Tuesday night, Oct. 6, after police say he pulled a pocketknife on a Holiday Cinemas security guard who had stopped him from walking back into the theater with a cigarette.

The guard had minor cuts to the head and was treated at the scene, police said.

What Police Say Happened

Officers went to the theater at 970 North Colony Road at about 10 p.m. Tuesday after callers reported that a guard had been stabbed in the head during a fight, Lt. Stephen Jaques said, according to Patch.

Police said the man had been watching a movie and stepped outside to smoke, which the theater bans anywhere on its property. Security staff told him to leave. Instead, police said, he tried to get back inside while still smoking, and a scuffle with the guard followed.

During the struggle he threatened to stab the guard and drew a pocketknife, according to police. Someone standing nearby grabbed the blade away from him, which ended the fight, WFSB reported.

The Arrest

Callers told police the man was trying to drive off. Officers arriving at the theater saw his car pulling out of the lot and stopped it heading east on Barnes Road, where they arrested him, police said.

He faces three charges: second-degree assault, carrying a dangerous weapon and second-degree breach of peace. He posted a $50,000 bond and is due in court in Meriden on Oct. 20, police said. The charges are accusations, and he has not been convicted.
