Enfield police and the Connecticut State Police Major Crime Unit are investigating the death of a 12-year-old Eve Rogers, who was found dead at her home at 176 Elm Street in Enfield on the morning of March 18, 2026.
Eve's mother, Melanie Federline, told authorities she went to wake her daughter and found her unresponsive. A 911 call was placed from inside the home at approximately 10:25 a.m.
Response and Investigation
Enfield police responded to the 176 Elm Street address and confirmed the girl's death on scene. Investigators executed a search warrant for the entire residence and spent more than 12 hours at the scene on Wednesday.
The Connecticut State Police Major Crime Unit was called in to assist Enfield police with the investigation. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner also responded to the home.
Cause of Death Undetermined
The Chief Medical Examiner did not immediately determine a cause of death. Officials said it may be weeks before toxicology exam results are available, and those results will be central to determining how Eve died.
Authorities said there is no known threat to public safety.
Federline said she does not believe her daughter's death involved criminal activity. "It's a tragedy," she said.
Family Response
Family members described Eve Rogers as a vibrant child. Her family said she was "the brightest light" and "a light the world needed."
No further statement from the family had been released as of March 22, 2026.
What Investigators Are Examining
The Major Crime Unit's involvement is standard procedure for any unexplained death of a child in Connecticut, regardless of whether investigators suspect criminal activity. The unit provides additional resources and expertise during the initial investigation period.
The search warrant allowed investigators to examine physical evidence throughout the home, including any items that might help explain the circumstances of Eve's death. Investigators have not publicly identified any persons of interest or described the search warrant's findings.
