East Haven Police Called In After Hospital Flags Suspicious Death

When Landolfi arrived in East Haven, he required emergency medical attention and was transported by ambulance to Yale New Haven Hospital, the Hartford Courant reported. He was treated for his injuries but died on February 13.

Hospital staff reported the death to East Haven police as suspicious on February 13, prompting the department to open an investigation. The New Haven Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Team was assigned to the case on February 18 after investigators determined the crash had occurred within New Haven city limits.

As of February 24, no suspect or vehicle has been identified. Police have not disclosed what type of vehicle was involved or whether any surveillance footage from Forbes Avenue has been recovered.

Navy Veteran Was Sole Caregiver for His Father

Landolfi was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in the 1990s and had been battling cancer for three years before his death, according to an obituary published by Havens Family North Haven Funeral Home. He was the sole caretaker for his 84-year-old father, Dominic R. Landolfi Jr.

He is survived by his son Nicholas Landolfi, grandson Julian Landolfi, stepmother Theresa Fryer Landolfi, and sister Maria Shields, among other family members.

A close friend, David Goraieb, organized a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and support Landolfi's elderly father. Goraieb described Landolfi as "a good man with a heart of gold, always ready to help others and leave a positive mark wherever he went."
