Woman Pulled from Jeep Submerged 35 Feet Into Connecticut River at Rocky Hill Boat Launch

Emergency crews rescued a woman from a Jeep SUV that entered the Connecticut River at the Ferry Park boat launch on Meadow Road in Rocky Hill on Monday, March 23, 2026. Firefighters located the vehicle approximately 35 feet from the riverbank and pulled the woman to safety in roughly 10 minutes by breaking a window to reach her.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, was alert and cooperative with responders. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for evaluation. One police officer also suffered minor injuries during the rescue operation and was transported to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

The Jeep remained in the water for several hours after the woman was extracted. Recovery crews removed the vehicle from the river around 1:45 p.m.

Multi-Agency Response in Rocky Hill

The Rocky Hill Fire Department, Rocky Hill Police Department, Cromwell Fire Department, Middletown Fire Department, and ambulance units all responded to the scene. Rocky Hill officials confirmed initially one occupant was inside the vehicle and that the woman was alert and cooperative upon contact with rescuers.

The Middletown Fire Department activated its specialized dive team to assist in the operation. The team's deployment illustrates the cooperative mutual aid agreements in place along the Connecticut River corridor, where water emergencies routinely draw resources across municipal lines.

Authorities said they were investigating how the vehicle entered the river. As of late March 2026, no cause has been publicly confirmed and no charges have been filed in connection with the incident.

Ferry Park Boat Launch History

Ferry Park is a riverfront recreational area on Meadow Road in Rocky Hill, accessible to the public and frequently used by boaters during warmer months. The site sits along a stretch of the Connecticut River that separates Rocky Hill from Glastonbury.

This is not the first time a vehicle has entered the water at this location. In 2022, two vehicles were removed from the Connecticut River at the same Rocky Hill boat launch. The recurrence of vehicle-in-water incidents at the site may prompt future discussion among town officials about safety measures at the launch.

Regional Emergency Response Coordination

The March 23 rescue reflects a well-established pattern of inter-municipal response to water emergencies in the greater Hartford area. The Connecticut River runs through multiple jurisdictions, and specialized resources like dive teams are not maintained by every municipality. Middletown's dive unit has previously been called upon to assist neighboring towns during water-related incidents.

Rocky Hill Fire officials have not issued a formal after-action statement on the incident. The Rocky Hill Police Department confirmed basic details of the rescue but has not released additional information about the investigation into the vehicle's entry into the river.
