New Haven Resident Shot, Then Charged in Waterbury

A 33-year-old New Haven man who was shot during a disturbance in Waterbury on Wednesday has been arrested and charged with assault, according to multiple news outlets.

Scott Basile sustained a gunshot wound and a graze wound during the incident at 1900 North Main Street in Waterbury at approximately 11:18 a.m. on February 26, 2026, according to WTNH. He was transported to a local hospital with multiple non-life-threatening injuries and was listed in stable condition, the Hartford Courant reported.

After being discharged from the hospital, Basile was arrested on February 27 and charged with assault and failure to comply with fingerprint requirements, according to Daily Voice. He is a parolee, Daily Voice reported.

Waterbury Police Say Shooting Was Isolated Incident

Waterbury police responded to reports of shots fired at 1900 North Main Street and determined the incident was isolated, stemming from a disturbance between two people, WTNH reported. WFSB described it as an argument that escalated.

Police have not released the name of the other person involved in the disturbance or identified a suspect in the shooting. It has not been publicly indicated whether the other individual faces charges. No bystanders were injured, according to police reports cited by multiple outlets.

The assault charge against Basile suggests police believe he was an aggressor in the disturbance, despite also being a shooting victim. Connecticut law allows for the arrest and charging of individuals who are also victims in a violent encounter if evidence indicates they were active participants or instigators. Under Connecticut General Statutes, second-degree assault applies when a person intentionally causes physical injury to another person. The charge is a Class D felony, punishable by up to five years in prison and fines up to $5,000.

The failure to comply with fingerprint requirements is a separate charge that applies to individuals required to maintain identification records as a condition of parole or other court-ordered supervision.

Basile's Case Moves to Connecticut Courts

No bond amount, arraignment date, or court appearance details have been publicly released. The case is expected to proceed through the Waterbury court system.

Basile's parole status, as identified by Daily Voice, indicates a prior criminal record, though the specifics of his previous conviction have not been disclosed. As a parolee, Basile is subject to conditions of supervised release administered by the Connecticut Department of Correction's Parole and Community Services Division, which typically include restrictions on association, travel, and possession of weapons. A new arrest while on parole can trigger separate revocation proceedings in addition to the criminal charges.

No court records for Basile appeared in New Haven judicial databases within the past 90 days, though this may reflect that any prior cases were handled in a different jurisdiction or under a different court system.

The Waterbury Police Department's Detective Bureau is handling the investigation, which remains active. Police can be reached at (203) 574-6941 for anyone with information about the incident.

The 1900 block of North Main Street is located in a commercial and residential area of Waterbury's northern section. Police responded to reports of shots fired and arrived to find Basile with gunshot injuries. Emergency medical services transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for multiple non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The shooting at 1900 North Main Street is one of several violent incidents reported across the region in recent days, though there is no indication it is connected to other cases. Anyone with information about the incident can contact the Waterbury Police Department's Detective Bureau at (203) 574-6941.
