Guilford Sustainability Task Force Opens Survey for Resident Input

The Sustainable Guilford Task Force, an official advisory body appointed by the Board of Selectmen, is accepting public input through a 10-minute online survey designed to gather resident perspectives on the town's environmental priorities. The survey launched February 18, 2026, and is open through Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

All Guilford residents are encouraged to participate. The survey is available on the Town of Guilford's website through the Zencity community engagement platform. No registration is required.

What the Survey Asks

The survey asks residents which sustainability issues matter most to them and what role they believe the town should play in addressing those priorities. The task force says the survey is designed to help inform Guilford's future sustainability planning and support local initiatives.

Participants are asked to indicate their priorities across a range of environmental and quality-of-life topics. The full survey takes fewer than 10 minutes to complete.

The task force intends to use the results to shape the direction of its work and to help guide town boards, commissions, and departments on sustainability-related decisions.

About the Sustainable Guilford Task Force

The Sustainable Guilford Task Force is a formally constituted advisory group that serves the Guilford Board of Selectmen. Its charge is to guide town boards, commissions, and departments on advancing principles of sustainability, equity, and environmental stewardship.

The task force meets regularly and maintains official meeting minutes through the Town of Guilford's document center. The group has been active for several years, working on issues ranging from energy efficiency and waste reduction to transportation and land use.

As an advisory body, the task force does not set policy directly but makes recommendations to elected and appointed town officials. The public survey is part of its community engagement function -- gathering baseline information from residents about what issues they want the town to prioritize.

Why Resident Input Matters

Connecticut towns rely heavily on volunteer boards and commissions for local governance, and community input surveys are a standard tool for gauging resident priorities before developing plans or making recommendations to selectmen or the Town Plan and Zoning Commission.

Guilford has an active civic landscape, with numerous boards addressing land use, conservation, and environmental issues. The Sustainable Guilford Task Force operates alongside bodies like the Conservation Commission, the Inland Wetlands Agency, and the Planning and Zoning Commission -- each of which may be influenced by the survey results as the task force translates resident feedback into policy recommendations.

Environmental and sustainability topics that frequently arise in Guilford's civic discussions include shoreline and coastal resilience, open space preservation, energy use in municipal buildings, stormwater management, and transportation alternatives.

How to Participate

Guilford residents can access the survey through the Town of Guilford's official website at guilfordct.gov. The survey is available through the Zencity engagement platform, which the town uses for community feedback on various initiatives.

The deadline to complete the survey is April 29, 2026. Residents with questions can contact the Sustainable Guilford Task Force through the Board of Selectmen's office at Town Hall.

The task force plans to analyze results and present findings to town leadership following the survey's close. Future updates on how the data will be used are expected to be posted through the town's official communications channels.
