Columbia Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for Child Sexual Assault
Alyson Cranick, 44, of Columbia, Connecticut, was sentenced Thursday to 20 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to coercing an 11-year-old boy into sexual activity over a period of months in 2022. U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley imposed the sentence of 240 months in federal prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release, at the federal courthouse in Bridgeport.
Cranick was a former administrative assistant at Region School District 19, which serves students in Willington, Mansfield, Columbia, and Ashford in eastern Connecticut. The victim was not a student in Region 19.
How the Crime Unfolded
According to prosecutors, between July and October 2022, Cranick exchanged more than 4,700 messages with the boy on the Discord platform after moving from text messaging and Snapchat. Cranick reportedly shifted to Discord after learning the child's family was monitoring his other social media accounts. She used those platforms to coerce the boy into meeting her in person at locations in and around Columbia.
Cranick convinced the child to leave his home after midnight at least 14 times, meeting her at Columbia Lake, Horace Porter School, and Salmon River State Forest in Colchester, where she sexually assaulted him in her vehicle. The abuse continued for several months before coming to light.
Cranick pleaded guilty on November 18, 2025, to a charge of coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity. The case was investigated by the FBI's Child Exploitation Task Force and the Connecticut State Police's Eastern District Major Crime Unit.
