Bridgeport Opposes UI Monopole Project

Bridgeport, the Town of Fairfield, and state lawmakers have jointly urged the Connecticut Siting Council (CSC) to delay or deny approval of a proposed United Illuminating monopole transmission line. In a statement issued October 15, 2025, the group cited significant adverse community and environmental impacts from the overhead transmission project, which is under review in Docket 516R.

City officials are calling on the CSC to carefully consider the project’s effects on residents and local ecosystems. The opposition reflects growing regional concern over the scale and placement of the infrastructure.
