Drop-in sessions at the Branford library provide free, one-on-one technology help for residents navigating smartphones, apps, and software.
Branford Library Offers Free Tech Help Every Tuesday
James Blackstone Memorial Library in Branford holds free Tech Help Tuesday sessions twice a month, offering residents one-on-one assistance with smartphones, tablets, and software at no cost — no appointment required.
The drop-in program runs on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon in the library's Lucy Hammer Room at 758 Main St. Sessions are 15 minutes per person on a first-come, first-served basis. The next session is scheduled for March 10, 2026.
What Kind of Help Is Available
Tech Help Tuesday is designed for everyday technology challenges that can leave residents frustrated or stuck. Library staff and volunteers help with common questions such as setting up or navigating a new iPhone or iPad, formatting Word documents, managing email accounts, connecting to Wi-Fi, downloading apps, and navigating online portals for services like healthcare and government benefits.
The program targets adults who may be uncomfortable with technology or who recently acquired a new device and need help getting started. Because sessions are limited to 15 minutes, the format works best for focused, specific questions rather than comprehensive training.
Residents who need help can walk in during the two-hour window and wait their turn. There is no registration process and no fee.
Why Library Tech Help Programs Matter
Public libraries across Connecticut have increasingly taken on digital literacy support as a core service, recognizing that internet access and technology skills are now prerequisites for participating in everyday life. Online banking, telehealth appointments, government benefit applications, school communications, and job applications have all migrated online in recent years — creating a gap for residents who lack digital confidence or equipment.
Branford's older adult population in particular may benefit from the in-person format. National research consistently shows that older Americans are less likely to own smartphones or use the internet daily, and face greater barriers to learning technology without hands-on help.
The library setting removes several common obstacles: it provides a familiar, non-intimidating environment, free parking, ADA-accessible facilities, and staff who are used to helping community members navigate unfamiliar systems.
