The arrests involved residents of Branford and neighboring communities including North Branford, Clinton, and Woodbridge.
The most serious charges stemmed from two separate incidents: a strangulation case involving a Clinton man on Feb. 24, and a forgery and identity theft case against a North Branford man on March 2.

Onofre Jersy Daniel Zambrano, 27, of Clinton, was arrested on Feb. 24 and charged with first-degree unlawful restraint, second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree strangulation/suffocation, and second-degree breach of peace.
Under Connecticut law, second-degree strangulation or suffocation is a Class D felony, which carries a sentence of one to five years in state prison upon conviction. First-degree unlawful restraint is also a Class D felony, carrying a potential sentence of one to five years.

Additional Arrests, Feb. 24–March 3, 2026

Feb. 27 — Jadaliz Calo, 20, Branford: Calo was charged with risk of injury to a child, third-degree criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct. Feb. 28 — Lindsay Celeste Walsh, 38, Branford: Walsh was charged with disorderly conduct, a Class C misdemeanor.
Connecticut's Approach to Strangulation Charges
Connecticut law treats strangulation as a standalone felony offense. The state classifies strangulation separately from assault charges, a designation that prosecutors and advocates have used to more effectively address cases involving domestic violence and intimate partner violence. The charge carries heightened penalties compared to a standard assault charge.
Identity theft and forgery cases have also drawn increased enforcement attention in Connecticut in recent years as financial fraud schemes adapt to electronic payment systems. First-degree forgery typically involves falsified financial instruments, such as checks or credit instruments.
